FLICKERS OF THOUGHT
God is the pronoun for the genderless Reality who holds everything.
It is reasonable to trust the drama of the universe to the One who designed it and will have ultimate control over the consummation of it.
Human tragedy is the price we pay for the existence of human dignity and freedom. From our perspective we cannot accept the price without anger or disbelief. God knows this. Trust in God is the willingness to feel our anger and distrust of God at the same time as surrendering to God with a trust in God’s ultimate Goodness. Faith does not deny the injustice of irrational human suffering. But hope lives with the confidence that a Higher Wisdom will bring resolution to our anguish in ways we cannot possibly understand. | |
In John’s Gospel we see Jesus “the escapist.” The message is: we cannot capture Christ in words or concepts. In the end Christ hands himself over, which means Christ is not a problem to be solved or an enigma to be figured out, but a gift to be received.
